‘The Apple Day’ to vie at Dhaka filmfest

Iranian movie ‘The Apple Day’ will be screened at the Dhaka Int'l Film Festival in Bangladesh.

Iranian movie ‘The Apple Day’ will be screened at the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh.

Directed by Mahmoud Ghaffari and produced by Elaheh Nobakht, 'The Apple Day' will vie at the 2023 edition of the event.

‘The Apple Day’ is about the members of an Iranian family who lovingly support each other in the face of all hardships and give room to each other to grow.

A young boy named Saeed takes apples to school and distributes them among his fellow schoolmates. Saeed’s father has a truck on which he sells apples. Saeed's ability to complete his task eventually becomes impossible as the truck is taken. He must now find a way to solve the problem.

Arian Rastegar, Zhila Shahi, Mehdi Pourmousa and Khodadad Bakhshizadeh are the cast members of the flick.

‘The Apple Day’ was premiered at the Generation Kplus section of the Berlinale 2022 and was awarded the Silver Apricot and FIPRESCI Prize at the 2022 Yerevan Golden Apricot International Film Festival in Armenia.

Since 1977, the DIFF has been promoting a healthy culture in the film industry in Bangladesh with the main theme of “Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society”.

Some 200 films from 60 countries compete at the DIFF in the following categories: Asian Competition Section, Retrospective, Bangladesh Panorama, Cinema of the World, Children’s Film, Short and Independent Film, Women Filmmakers Section, and Spiritual Films Section.

The festival’s website states, the “DIFF is a bold expression of resistance against the decadence, vulgarity and cheap commercialism that pervades the mainstream Bangladesh film industry”.

The 2023 edition of the event will take place in the Bangladeshi capital from January 14 to 22.
